Our chapter offers regularly scheduled courses in Adult CPR/AED, Infant/Child CPR, and First Aid. More specialized courses such as Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Water Safety, Red Cross Instructor training, Pet First Aid, and Babysitting are also offered. BABYSITTER'S TRAINING PROGRAM
This course is designed to teach the responsibilities and qualities of being a good babysitter and what to expect from the babysitting employment situation. Includes interviewing for a babysitting job, making good & responsible decisions, supervising children, keeping kids and self safe, being prepared to handle an emergency or illness, basic first aid and responding effectively to life-threatening emergencies, and basic care of infants and children. Course has been designed for young girls and boys, ages 11-15. Participants will earn the American Red Cross Babysitter Certification. (We recommend also taking the Infant & Child CPR certification course to further babysitter's confidence to handle an emergency situation and be a successful babysitter.) Cost: $45.00, includes the Red Cross Babysitter's Handbook, all materials and some basic babysitting supplies (need-based financial aid is available). Participants should bring a bag lunch/snacks.

BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS: Preventing Disease Transmission
This approximately 1 hour course was designed to train and provide individuals with an understanding of the intent of the bloodborne pathogens regulation issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); how bloodborne pathogens are spread; how to help prevent exposure incidents by following work practice controls, using engineering controls and personal protective equipment, practicing good personal hygiene and properly cleaning and disinfecting equipment and supplies; and to recognize, report and follow up on employee exposures to infectious materials. Text used is the current Bloodborne Pathogens: Preventing Disease Transmission participant manual, 2003 edition. Cost: $15.00, includes all materials.

This approximately 4 1/2 hour class provides individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. For the purposes of this training, the American Red Cross considers “Adult” to be 12 years and up. There are no prerequisites for this course, text used is the new First Aid/CPR/AED for Schools and the Community Participant Manual, 3rd Edition. CPR/AED For The Professional Rescuer
This approximately 8 hour course was designed to teach those with a duty to act (professional rescuers) the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest. If a course is split into two sessions, you must attend both sessions. Text used is the new CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Participant Manual, 3rd Edition. No vending machines available. Cost: $63, includes all materials including and pocket mask.

First Aid and CPR for Everyone
This approximately one hour class provides individuals with some basic knowledge and skills to perform compression only CPR in cardiac emergencies and some basic First Aid skills. There are no prerequisites for this course and there is no certification. Each participant or family can leave the class with a compression only tool and DVD to practice at home (to keep expenses down, we ask that you take only one DVD per family if possible). This is a great opportunity to be introduced to skills you will learn in a more formal class when you don't have the time for a longer class. Taking the class will give you the opportunity to ask questions and gain more information through class interaction.
Cost: $10.00, includes compression tool and DVD and wallet skill card.
You can also buy the DVD and compression tool without taking the class for $10.

Learn how to provide intermediate and temporary care to an injured animal until it can be taken to a veterinarian. Includes rescue breathing and CPR for both dogs and cats. INSTRUCTOR TRAINING *Fundamentals Of Instructor Training (FIT) and Lay Responder First Aid/CPR/AED New Instructor Training*
The purpose of the FIT class is to: 1) Introduce instructor candidates to the history, structure and activities of the American Red Cross, 2) Prepare instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross specialty courses to diverse populations, and 3) Introduce instructor candidates to the policies and procedures of the American Red Cross to ensure course consistency, quality and apropriate reporting.
FIT is the one prerequisite course to any instructor level course taught by the American Red Cross. An instructor candidate must complete an instructor specialty course within one year of completing Fundamentals of Instructor Training. The New Instructor Training is for individuals who wish to teach American Red Cross Lay Responder First Aid and CPR/AED classes.
Cost is $195 for the three day program and includes a pocket mask, all Workplace, Schools and Community training student materials, instructor manual and an instructor t-shirt.

WATER SAFETY CLASSES
Through a partnership with the City of Hendersonville and the Patton Pool, and with the Leila Patterson Center in Fletcher, we are able to offer Red Cross swimming, lifeguarding, and WSI (water safety instructor) training to the community throughout the summer swimming season.
