The Henderson County Chapter of the American Red Cross offers blood screening services in our office every Wednesday morning from 9am - 10am. This service is low cost, but certainly not low quality or service.  We contract with LabCorp, Inc. for the lab work, we employ professional phlebotomists (most of whom are EMT's) for the blood draws, we provide clients with two copies of their lab results, and we'll even fax a copy to your physician upon your request.  Results are generally available in just two days, on Friday afternoons after 3pm.  Our low fees are set to cover the program expenses with a minimal markup which is used to help defray some of the costs of our local disaster services.      Fasting from the midnight before is required for most tests.  You may drink water, black coffee, or plain tea. For your convenience we accept cash, local checks, Master Charge, VISA and American Express.                     Laboratory Information Our low-cost Blood Screening Services are made available through the services of our professional phlebotomists and our contracted lab, Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp).  LabCorp is based in Burlington, NC with facilities located all over the United States. Their laboratories are directed by board-certified or board-eligible pathologists and they have a demonstrated commitment to providing the quality and service that we expect.  Here in Hendersonville, LabCorp is a major provider of quality clinical testing services for the local medical community.  Our blood screen reports will provide the normal values for each panel, along with your individual results. If your test results are outside the normal range, that will be highlighted on your report. We recommend that you share your blood screen results with your physician. An additional copy of your results is provided for this purpose.   Red Cross phlebotomist, Tanya Bryson, drawing blood for one of our client's blood screening panel.  We can't guarantee that everyone will have this much fun but we do try to make your experience a good one!      Find out why 911 people came to the Henderson County Red Cross for their blood screening labs in 2006.  They've found that you can pay $75 for our special CMP-Plus package (see list of panels above) or pay over $300 through your medical provider ($300 is average actual cost for blood chemistry test for cholesterol or blood sugar only).  Another reason? Hopefully, to avoid paying $60,853 for hospitalization later (average cost of hospitalization for heart artery bypass graft)!                   (Please understand, the Red Cross is not a medical office and we do not have physicians on site.  We offer these blood screening labs as a community service.  We recommend that you always share your blood screeening results with your doctor and discuss any health concerns you have with those medical and health-care professionals)
