Disaster prevention, preparation and response are the foundation of the American Red Cross mission. We believe that training is key to fullfilling that mission so we offer a broad curriculum of disaster services training here at the Henderson County Chapter. There are also an increasing number of "blended learning" online components of classroom courses and other online courses available through the web-based Red Cross Learning Management System (LMS).
All disaster training courses are FREE.

INTRODUCTION TO DISASTER (ARC 3066)
This web-based, online course provides fundamental information about disasters, the community response and the role of Red Cross Disaster Services volunteers. Go to http://www2.redcross.org/donate/volunteer and check out the link to "Introduction to Disaster Services". For more information, contact our office (phone: (828) 693-5605 or email: disaster@hcredcross.net). Introduction To Disaster Services is a pre-requisite for ALL other disaster courses. Course length: approximately 45 min.

MASS CARE OVERVIEW (DSMCC 200A)
This course provides an overview of the activities performed by the Mass Care Group in support of a disaster relief operation. These services include sheltering, both mass feeding and field distribution of individual meals, and distribution of supplies to our clients. Participants will learn the various roles and responsibilities of Mass Care volunteers and the skills and abilities needed for this function. This course can be taken as a home-study course. FULFILLING OUR MISSION: Translating Your Compassion Into Community Action (DSGEN 200A)
The purpose of this course is to enable participants to translate their care and compassion into community action. The participants will be able to assess how to use their skills and abilities to strenghten the capacity of both the community and the Red Cross to effectively serve people affected by disaster. This class is a prerequisite for some other disaster courses. Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services. Course length: 3.5 hours

Serving People with Disabilities Following a Disaster (DSPPS 200A)
This blended learning course is designed to outline Red Cross policies and practices related to providing services to people with disabilities in the aftermath of a disaster. The instructor-led component is directed to all Red Cross personnel who interact directly with people with disabilities. Completion of both the online and instructor-led components is required. Client Assistance Cards - Caseworkers (DSCLS 200C)
The purpose of this course is to prepare caseworkers to properly receive and issue Client Assistance Cards (CAC) during a local or national disaster response. This course is required of all Client Caseworkers. Course length: 3 modules for approximate total time of 2.0 hours.
Client Assistance System - CAS
This series of self-study courses is designed to introduce and familiarize the caseworker with the Client Assistance System (CAS). This web-based system manages information about clients, their needs and the assistance provided. It also matches disaster assessment information with client information. Total Series: 6 courses. Courses vary in length, averaging 3.5 hours each.

This online component of the blended learning course outlines Red Cross policies and practices related to providing services to people disabilities following a disaster. Course length: approximate time of 0.75 hours
