Volunteer Opportunities with the Red Cross

Find out how good it can feel to make a difference in the lives of others……volunteer with the Henderson County Chapter of the American Red Cross!  Our volunteers help save lives – providing assistance to disaster victims, delivering community health and safety classes, providing community health programs and services, working with thousands of volunteer blood donors, donating professional expertise in accounting, finance, public relations, grounds maintenance, administration and information technology.  Contact us and let’s explore how your knowledge, skills, abilities and enthusiasm can fit into the Red Cross. 

             Current Volunteer Opportunities (as of 10/10/10)

General needs and administrative opportunities:

  1. Become involved with fund-raising events as an organizer, planner and/or participant!!!!!!   (great opportunity for creative, outgoing person to really make a difference!)
  2. Volunteer as a speaker or public liaison for the Red Cross – help us tell our story and fulfill our mission through your community friends and contacts.
  3. Volunteer as a Red Cross representative at the regional Veterans Hospital in Asheville.  We need someone to help with bingo games on Thursday afternoons.  Also need donations of personal supplies, etc. for patients. Other opportunities also available.  Ask how you can help.
  4. Volunteer to donate blood.
  5. Volunteer to help support our operations financially.
  6. Copy Editor to help with our newsletter, press releases, etc.
  7. Graphic Designer to help create our local brochures and publications.

Health and Safety opportunities:

  1. Become trained and certified as a Red Cross instructor to teach First Aid, CPR and/or other community health classes like pet first aid or babysitting skills.

Blood Services opportunities:

  1. Greeters or canteen workers for blood drives.
  2. We need Spanish/English bi-lingual blood drive workers or translators.
  3. Deliver canteen supplies and signage to local blood drive sites and pick-up afterwards (would be part of a team that handles the canteen deliveries).

Disaster Services opportunities:

  1. Get trained and involved as a disaster services worker. (All training and classes are free.  Opportunities for local and national disaster responses.  These volunteers assist victims of hurricanes, floods, winter storms and help operate emergency shelters.  They also assist families forced from their homes by fire with shelter, food, clothing and other emergency needs.
